The Instagram Hashtag Template is one of Heyo’s newest templates that pulls the specific hashtag entries from Instagram and displays on your Facebook Page! Here, we will take a look at the Instagram Hashtag Template, its features, and how to use it to present your photos to your Facebook fans.
Note: We here at Heyo are constantly trying to improve our templates, and, as such, these overviews are subject to change.
The Instagram Hashtag Template is part of a new set of “Hashtag Templates” that allow you to run Twitter and Instagram hashtag promotions in a simple way. Like all of our Contest Templates, the Instagram Hashtag template comes packed with easy-to-customize widgets and mobile optimization that will propel your giveaway to success. As a prebuilt template, we’ve done the hard part for you, and created a mobile optimized version of your campaign.
Instagram Hashtag Template features include:
First, go to your dashboard in Heyo, and click on the orange “Create a Campaign” button.
Under the “Hashtag Templates” option on the menu on the right side of the screen, click on “Instagram Promotion”
Click on the orange “Save and Continue” button at the bottom of the menu when you’ve selected the Instagram Hashtag template. This will take you to the Heyo Editor. You can customize the widgets on the Photo Contest Template, simply by clicking on a widget and editing the widget options that open on the right-hand side of the screen.
First, let’s set the Hashtag settings for the campaign. Start by clicking on the “Hashtag Settings” widget on the right -hand side of the screen. This will let you to set a unique hashtag for your campaign. All the entries on Instagram with this specific hashtag will get pulled into the campaign and displayed on the gallery page of published campaign.
Once you click the “Hashtag Settings” widget, you’ll be able to set a unique hashtag for your promotion.
When you’re setting a hashtag for your promotion make it brief, unique and consistent with your brand. Don’t use generic words for your hashtag. For instance, if you use #contest as your entry hashtag, you are going to get a lot of results, that have nothing to do with your promotion. Consider using something that is unique and descriptive like #HeyoGiveaway2017 or #WeLoveHeyo – using your company name, not ours, of course.
Once you’ve set the hashtag for your promotions click on “Save Changes” button to continue.
Note:
1.You’ll not be able to continue with the campaign creation flow, unless you set the hashtag for your promotion. Also after publishing the campaign, it takes upto 10 minutes for the entries to get pulled into the campaign.
2.If user post a photo from the private account then we will be not able to pull that entry. Only public account photo entries will be pulled into your campaign.
3.In the trial period we will only pull 20 entries. After that we will not pull the entries unless you subscribe to paid plan which supports Hashtag promotions. Please check our pricing page to know the plan which supports Hashtag promotions and you can also email our support team to know the pricing plan – we’re happy to guide you on this.
4.Editing a post then adding a hashtag later will not be automatically entered. Users must include the designated hashtag with the original post.
5. Multiple photos in an Instagram post is not supported, we only consider one photo in a post.
Now, let’s change the Contest Image. Start by clicking on the image to open up the widget options on the right.
The recommended image size is 448px by 270 px, the image should be a JPG or PNG file, and the file size limit is 2MB. If your image is larger than that, consider resizing the image using Photoshop or pixlr.com. I would also recommend adding text to your image, like in the screenshot above.
Once you have created your image, click ‘Upload’ in the widget options. Select the image you want to upload and then click ‘Save Changes’ at the bottom of the screen.
The Instagram Hashtag Template also gives you a header image to play around with. To change this image, just click on the header image to open up the options and upload your photo.
The recommended image size is 564px by 183 px, the image should be a JPG or PNG file, and the file size limit is 2MB. If your image is larger than that, consider resizing the image using Photoshop or pixlr.com. I would also recommend adding text to your image, like in the screenshot above.
Once you have created your image, click ‘Upload’ in the widget options. Select the image you want to upload and then click ‘Save Changes’ at the bottom of the screen.
Click on the Enter/Gallery button to edit the accent color using the color picker. The accent color controls both the Enter/Gallery button’s color.
Note: Clicking on the ‘Enter/Gallery button does NOT open the Gallery page. All changes made to the Entry page will carry over to the Gallery page automatically.
Next, let’s move on to the text under the Countdown Widget; this area is usually used to explain the rules of the contest. To edit the text, click on the text on the campaign canvas to open up the widget options.
Note: You do not type directly onto the campaign canvas. A text editor will open up in the widget options on the right hand side of the screen. You can type in this text box and change the text appearance in this editor.
When you’re done editing the text, click ‘Save Changes’ to continue.
Let’s turn our attention to the Countdown Widget. You can change the ending date and time associated with the Countdown Clock by clicking on the widget and opening the widget options on the right.
In the options, select the date and time when you want the Entry Period to start and end. You can also set the start and end date for voting, which should end after the entry period.
You can also edit the frequency at which people can vote per hour. Click ‘Save Changes’ to save the Countdown clock.
Once you’ve customized every widget on the template, be sure to check out the ‘Options’ tab on the upper right-hand side of the screen.
Here is where you can customize the Meta Data that appears on Facebook for your campaign, as well as add Tracking Script to track stats specific to your campaign. You also have the ability to add Google Analytics to your campaign – instructions on how to use these options can be found here.
You can customize the background of the Instagram Hashtag Template. You can upload a background image using, select a background color using the Heyo Color Picker, or select one of Heyo’s preset backgrounds.
The Gallery Page changes with the edits to the entry page, so you won’t have to go through and design a separate template. To see the Gallery page, just click ‘Save and Preview.’

Once your Instagram Hashtag Contest is live, you will be able to moderate the photos submitted to your contest. To do this, log into an account that is an admin on your Facebook fan page. Then, hover over the photo you wish to delete. This will bring up a deletion button in the top right corner of the photo.
When you click on the button in the top right corner of the image, a popup will come up asking if you really want to delete the photo.
Just click ‘Yes, Delete Photo’ and the photo will be removed from the competition.
Note: I recommend putting in a note in the contest rules, reserving to right to delete photo entries that are inappropriate or that fail to meet your terms and conditions.
